Glenn was ready for a break from the shop - I was ready to ATV! We headed out on a Sunday mid afternoon and of course met all the traffic going home! Most of the time there is plenty of camping during the week days - but not this time!!
Just as we pulled into Pitkin it started to rain - we pulled up to the road where our favorite camping spot is and just pulled to the side so I could get out and walk up to see if there was someone in that particular place - oh yea, there were 3 campers already there! Luckily we didn't turn onto that road as there is NO great place to turn around!
We traveled up the main road and saw that the other spots were all taken too...................darn.............and by this time it was pouring!!! So we just did the next best thing as it was getting late - we knew of a large spot up the road where people park their trailers when they are just there for the day so we pulled in there and spent the night there - it worked out just fine as there was no ATVing that evening because of the rain!
The next morning we headed out on our ATV and had a great ride!! We both love that part of Colorado and the trails are for the most part pretty easy ones! Everything was so green this year from all the rain!
Luckily we headed back to the camper mid--afternoon but not before it started to rain - it's pretty miserable riding through the rain, even with the rain gear on!! I don't mind it too bad because I'm behind Glenn but poor Glenn gets a faceful of water!! He had suggested that we bring the small plastic bags to tie around our shoes so they didn't get so wet - an excellent idea because they would have been soaked by the time we got back to the 5th wheel!! (after we got back home I ordered Glenn a waterproof face mask with fleece on one side to keep warm - I know he will use it when it rains again!!)
Because the 5th wheel and atv trailer were still all hooked up to each other, it didn't take us long to pack up and move - we had driven around to see if anyone had left so we could take their camping spot but no one had so we decided to go back to Sargeants and camp - there usually isn't anybody around there - and we were right!!!
We camped in a beautiful spot that I had already picked out the time before to camp in when Glenn hunts in a few weeks!!! But after driving around, we actually found another spot higher up that has a fantastic view so that's what we'll try to get when he hunts!
We actually had a campfire that night! And a beautiful ride the next day - there are so many trails to go on and I don't remember most of them so it's all new to me!!
This place has the BEST aspens and I mentally checked out their "green", knowing in another month or so they'll be gold!!
We spent 2 nights in Sargeants and then headed home on Wed. - but it wasn't a great trip home as we had a blow out on the 5th wheel! Luckily Glenn got over to a driveway which was large enough for our triple length (the shoulder would NOT have been wide enough to park on) and checked out the blown tire - it had wrapped itself around the wheel well and it took him a long time to get it pried off - of course it was on the highway side and it's pretty scary with all that traffic rushing by at 60 MPH!! I was glad when he finally got the tire off and the spare put on so we could continue on home! Even though the tread is still good on those tires, we think they are the original ones so are replacing all of them, just to be safe!!
