It's All About Evan

Our oldest grandson Evan has had an amazing track season!  He enjoys running in the 4x400 relay and the 4x800 relay - the 4x400 relay team was awesome this season and they broke the school record at least 3 different times!  But the best part of the track season was qualifying for state in the 4x400!

We all waited for him to run late afternoon - I was glued to my phone, waiting for Jessi to text with how they did and lo and behold, they took 1st place at state!!!!  WOW - so impressive!!!  It was a fight to the finish though and they beat the other fast team by a thousandth of a second!!  So proud of you Evan!

After the race, they immediately raced home as it was Evan's prom that evening!  Evan's date, Reese, is from Thornton and her prom was a couple weeks before but Evan was unable to attend because of a track meet so they were really excited to go to Evan's prom together!  They all drove to a nearby park for pictures - Reese's parents had brought her down so Evan didn't have to make the hour drive north to pick her up!

Such a good-looking couple!

And Evan assured me they had a wonderful time at prom!!

As if the Keppys needed one more thing to happen that day, they needed to celebrate Gwyn who turned 9 years old that Saturday!!!  Our "little" one is not so little anymore!!  We'll celebrate with her on Memorial Day Weekend!

Mothers Day

And OH what a Mothers Day it was!!  I knew I wouldn't be celebrating with the girls since we had been up north the weekend before AND I had a ticket to go to the Fine Arts Center with Amy to see "Rent" and I was excited about that!

The forecast called for 4 to 6 inches of snow - no big deal - Glenn decided we needed to go out for breakfast to Wild Horse since we hadn't been there since we got back from Mexico!  It was snowing when we left close to 8:00 and headed over!  Great coffee - great breakfast - and our favorite guy Jesse was there to take care of our order!

As we're sitting there eating, the snow kept getting heavier and heavier - by the time we left, it was slick out and we spun going up our driveway!  And the snow continued........

I texted Amy to let her know what was going on up here weatherwise but I was SURE I would still be able to come down - NOT!  By 11:30 it was getting deeper and deeper and I knew there was no way I was going to get out!  Hwy 24 was closed between Divide and Florissant due to accidents so everyone was rerouted on Twin Rocks Rd (at least the ones dumb enough to be out in it) and soon it was all backed up as a camper had jack knifed on that road!  So of course I had to let Amy know that I wouldn't be coming down and I was really disappointed!

The upside to the day was that I sat in my recliner and read while watching that beautiful snow come down!  And it just kept piling up!

We figured we got over a foot, probably close to 14"!!!  But the nice thing about spring storms is that it melts SO FAST!!!  By Tuesday you couldn't even tell that we had gotten snow!!  Gotta love Colorado when you get snow in the spring and the sun comes out the next day and melts it!

Fort Collins Bound

Since Evan wasn't running in his track meet on Saturday, we packed up and headed out!  Jessi and Gary both had to work anyway and the teens were sleeping away!  It was a nice drive up to Fort Collins and wonderful to see the Savage family - and even their dog, Penny!

Robby had donuts waiting for us and they tasted delicious with a cup of coffee!!  Unfortunately Aleah had been sick with a sore throat and fever so wasn't playing softball that day - she did feel better though!  We had a great afternoon and played some cards!

The lilacs were blooming in Denver AND Fort Collins - oh my do they smell fantastic!!  I picked a bunch at Jessi's and put them in a glass and then I picked some at Jill's and did the same thing!  Those delicate flowers are amazing!

Before dinner, Jill had me open my Mothers' Day present from the 3 girls - my annual blog book which I DEARLY LOVE!!  It's so fun knowing I get this book every year for Mothers' Day and wondering what color the book will be!  THANK YOU GIRLS!!

Aleah wanted to go to her game that evening, even though she knew she wouldn't suit up!  So Jill and I took her to the game, about 45 minutes away!  It was fun watching the other girls play and they won again!!  Hooray!

The next morning I went for a nice walk before we ate breakfast and played cards with the kids!  Aren't they cute?  Aleah was feeling just fine so suited up for her late morning game!

A quick picture with the grandparents and I packed up all of our stuff for Glenn to drive the car to the game since it was in the direction of home!

Aleah had to be there early so we dropped her off and went into Fort Lupton for coffee - I had found a place which was right at the edge of town so it was perfect!  Great coffee and a great spot to drink it!

We headed to the game and got our chairs set up - it was super windy and the wind only got worse as the day went on!!  The guys arrived just in time for the game - a very exciting game and they won - Aleah did not get to play as we all expected since she had missed practice and games on Saturday!

Here's their new poster which was hung on the fence - Robby is one of the sponsors with his computer business!

We ate our lunch and waited for the next game in the wind - Aleah got to run as a courtesy runner but that was all!  Unfortunately they lost that game.  We were planning on leaving to head home after that game but decided to stay and watch a little bit of the next one - we kept moving our chairs around as the girls played on a different field but the wind just wouldn't cooperate - we finally sat on the bleachers for a while!  Here's a picture of Parker - he was NOT a happy camper being there and his face was SO dirty from the dust!

We left after a couple of innings and headed home - luckily the traffic wasn't too bad and we made it home that evening!   What a great time in Denver AND Fort Collins seeing everyone!

A Day With Gwyn

After having coffee with Jessi, she headed to work and I went back to the house where Papa was playing games with Gwyn - we dressed for the outdoors and took Kona on a walk to the park!  We threw the balls and the frisbees for a long time until Kona wore herself out!!

After lunch we headed to Centennial Park - it was cool, yet sunny so made for a perfect day at the park!  Everything is in bloom in Denver so the trees were gorgeous!

Gwyn had fun running around doing the different activities while Glenn and I just watched!  We'd been to this park a couple of times at least when the grandkids were younger!

The 3 of us took a walk around the amphitheater and read all the signs and questions about Colorado - I didn't know all of the answers  - learn something new every day!

This girl knows how to model for a great picture!  And check out the pink outfit and shoes!!

We had a wonderful time at the park and then decided to get Dairy Queen - Glenn and Gwyn got blizzards and I got a hot fudge/caramel sundae - yum!

Gwyn desperately needed her room cleaned and the tops of her desk and dresser sorted out - so we started in and 1 1/2 hours later we were finished!  I vaccumed the room up and it looked 100% better!  And Gwyn was thrilled to have a super clean room once again!

It was a special day we spent with Gwyn!!

On The Road Again

Nope - just can't stay home!!  Especially when there's kids to see and grandkids to watch in their sports!

Jaime came over the next morning after we arrived home - it was so good to see her and we SO appreciated her checking our house weekly and getting our mail!  She brought my plants back over to me and they looked great!  We enjoyed coffee together and catching up!

The following Thursday we headed to Denver!  Jessi was waiting with open arms and was excited about the tortillas I had brought back for her, along with vanilla!  We walked over to the school to pick up Gwyn and she was all smiles!!  Soon we headed to Kenzie's track meet!  She was to run in 2 different events and we packed a lot of snacks, along with sandwiches for dinner - Gary had to work!

Unfortunately in the first relay, Kenzie was the last runner and as soon as the baton was handed to her, the girl in the next lane stepped into Kenzie's lane and Kenzie hit her and went flying!  Gosh, she landed hard but got right back up and finished the race.  Yes, she had bruises and scrapes from the track - poor girl - she was NOT happy!

But she ran excellent in the next relay and it was fun to watch her run!

Glenn and Gwyn headed back home after Kenzie ran - I stayed with Jessi as Kenzie needed to stay till the end - luckily the track meet was ahead of schedule because it got DARN cold before the end!

Did I forget to say that Kona had really grown????  I guess when you're gone for 3 months you really see the difference!

Evan had a track meet on Saturday but opted not to run since his relay had already qualified for state - we were disappointed not to see him run but have watched him before!

Games were played Friday night after a delicious crab linguine dinner!  Glenn and I were both surprised to see that Evan had really bulked up - that strength training paid off!

We always enjoy playing games with the Keppys!

Spiro was out and about and crawled right up Glenn's arm!!!

Friday morning Jessi and I went out for coffee BEFORE she went to work - always a great time catching up with everything and solving the worlds' problems - HA!

Gwyn actually had Friday off so she got to spend it with Nana and Papa - now that doesn't happen very often so she gets her own blog!!

April Photo Dump

It's time to wrap up April and get into May!!

Glenn was invited to go out on our neighbors' boat just a couple of days before we left!  He had a great time and caught one last dorado!  Glenn invited the 2 guys that he fished with to come over for a fish dinner that night - even though the cupboards were getting bare as it was almost time to leave, we managed just fine to put a great meal together!

Betsy and Colleen - 2 of our favorite people down there that we just don't spend enough time with!  We all get along together so well and we ate at a favorite place that has changed hands but was still delicious - the drinks were amazing!!

Glenn and Joleen started this puzzle and Glenn finally finished it!  Karen and Nita had left it for us!

One last sunrise!

And the donkeys came to tell us goodbye too!  They were around a few times and are fun to watch!

One last picture of our perfect view!

And when we got home?  I noticed when I first walked into the office to open the blinds and saw a cute little duck sitting on Glenn's keyboard!  I figured Kenzie had put it there - but then I walked over to my desk and there was one there for me!!  Both sets of girls that had stayed here during Easter had written a thank you note and said NOT to throw away the box below because I would find a use for it!  And then after looking around, we both started noticing these little ducks all over the house!  YES - Jessi had purchased this box of 100 ducks and they all hid them around the house!!

At first Glenn and I were running around the house trying to find them - oh my gosh - they were everywhere!  And then it got a little more difficult!!  But we had to stop and go to the neighbors' for dinner that evening and I had to start unpacking!!  Over the next few days, I kept finding them and I'd smile every single time - love those little ducks!!  We have found 85 so far - we're not actively searching any more but the girls say I will eventually find them SOME DAY!!!  HA!!!  Some of them were SO hard to see as the little duck matched whatever it was sitting on or by!!  What a fun thing to do!!

And that's it for April - onto May!

Our Journey Home

Saying good-bye to Baja is always hard - as much as I LOVE the beach, I'm always ready to head home to the mountains!  We left on a Tuesday morning at 5:30am - with one last look at the ocean!

It was cold going through the mountains - felt like Colorado temps!!

The scenery is always gorgeous!  We had cloudy skies a lot of the time which makes it for a wonderful drive!

Lunch break!  The skies were gorgeous by this time and it was downright hot when we ate!

It's always a welcoming feeling when we arrive at Ignacio Springs to stay at the yurts!  Bonnie and Paul are always fun to see and Mario makes the BEST pina coladas!

Dinner was wonderful, served outside at one big table and we always enjoy talking to the other people that are staying there!

Here's their local cat - loves to sleep on the chairs!

Nighttime is always so pretty!

I knew it was going to be a full moon so I kept going out of the yurt so I could see it and even though I couldn't capture it on my phone, it still made for a great picture on the river!

The 4 of us were ready at 7:00 for breakfast there before we headed out!  We knew the next leg would be tough as we had heard there were SO many potholes and bad highways out of Guerro Negro - oh my gosh - I felt like all we did was zig zag to the other side and luckily it was morning when we took this highway so there wasn't a lot of traffic!  FINALLY we drove out of it - wow - and I thought Colorado roads were bad!!

Glenn had decided he wanted to cross at San Luis, the other small crossing not too far from our regular spot - we were going to check out the crossing to see if our friends could get through with their 5th wheel AND trailer - NOT!  It was a sharp turn!  I wasn't impressed with this crossing so we'll go back to our normal one next year!

Once we crossed it wasn't too far to the hotel that the 4 of us were staying at!  We walked to a sports bar for dinner and I loved eating sweet potato fries once again!

We said our goodbyes to Del and Linda and after eating a quick breakfast at the hotel, we headed out - it was another long day till we arrived in Albuquerque for the night - and the following morning we made good time heading on home!  After a quick (actually NOT so quick) stop at Walmart to stock up on groceries since the fridge is always empty, we were finally HOME SWEET HOME!
