Full Moon Enjoyment

The waves are crashing today - and the wind is blowing like crazy!  It's an "inside" day as it's not any fun to be out in this type of wind on the beach or on the porch!  But that's OK - I love sitting on the couch with my feet out in front of me, facing the ocean and reading away the day!

Sunrises are once again pretty darn awesome!! You have to get up early to see them but that's fine by me!  That way I get my walk done early on the beach!

Glenn had a great day fishing!

Another gorgeous one!

I love seeing the horses on the beach - that day 4 of them arrived and hung around for a while!

The full moon!  It was breathtaking coming up over the water!

Pink sunrises are always fun to see when they happen!  And it's unusual to see them that direction!

The internet is crazy down here sometimes!  I've tried to download pics for this post all week and it just wouldn't do it!!  But today the internet finally cooperated!

And it also put all my pictures in the opposite order I downloaded them from - you got to love Mexico!

Baja Life

We're all settled into Mexican life and it kind of seems like we never left!  Unpacking always takes a while since we have so much down here already in the garage we rent - tubs sit in Glenn's boat so it works out well!  But I didn't feel like I had to "clean" as much as last year before I unpacked into the kitchen so that helped!

Glenn got the boat, ATV and stuff brought over the next morning and before long I was relaxing and reading!  This is Glenn's new kayak that we brought down on top of the car!

Sunrise on our first morning - not an amazing one but pretty enough for us!

Good eating whatever they are!!  Fish in the freezer for those days he doesn't catch anything which is rare!

My favorite spot is the porch drinking my coffee!

Snapper - excellent eating!

I was scared there might be clouds on full moon night so I took pics the night before, just in case!  It was beautiful out!

Life in Baja is wonderful!

Last Leg of the Journey

The owners of the yurt always serve a great breakfast and we hooked up with the 2 couples we met the night before so said our goodbyes and headed out!  We had a short drive today so that was nice!  Decided to stop in Mulege as I wanted to see this church that a friend had talked about that was mostly made of steel and we had plenty of time so we stopped!

The church was beautiful!  You could see the metal parts on the outside and the inside - and the stained glass windows were amazing!

Next up was Loreto - one of our favorite Baja towns!  They have a coffee place so we headed there first for my coffee - I wasn't disappointed!  Glenn was hungry for tacos so he ordered and I had one of his!

This little guy wanted to hold my hand!

And the tree lined walk which I always love!
.

We arrived at Hotel Triupi mid-afternoon - there's always a beautiful blooming bush.  We were upstairs this year which had a better view but the room wasn't as nice and had many little things that needed to be attended to!  Glenn always likes to watch a little tv to relax by but couldn't get it to work, even when the front desk lady came to help - oh well!

Dinner was excellent though!  I had their delicious tortilla soup and Glenn had fajitas!  When we went back to our room, these 3 geckos ( one is not in the picture) were hanging out around our lamp outside our room!

We opted not to stay for breakfast since they don't start serving till 8:00 and we wanted to be on the road by 7:00!  A nice days drive picking up a bag of oranges in Constitution and arriving in Los Barriles about 2:30!  It was great to see our rental house with a new screen door and hurricane main door!  It's wonderful to be here!

Mexico Bound

And we're off!  After a LOT of packing and all those last minute details, we were finally ready to head south of the border!  We were quite surprised to wake up on Sunday the 6th and see it snowing outside - and we had parked the car outside so it was all ready to go with the pickup in the garage.  Luckily we ran out of it outside of Colorado Springs but hit the snow again south of Pueblo!

We drove a long time in this!  And at the top of Raton Pass it was a blizzard!!  We were sure glad to eventually drive out of it!

Since there was no big storm going through Flagstaff, we took our usual route!  Our first night was in Winslow, AZ - we stayed at the Best Western - super friendly lady at check in and our room was very nice!!  We ate at a different place this year - a brewing company and the food was excellent!  1/2 block up the street was our photo op place!

Our next days drive was good - we stopped at Camp Verde for coffee at our usual place but were sad to discover it was closed on Mondays!  We drove on into Anthem, AZ as I had found a place on my phone and it was a wonderful spot so enjoyed coffee there!!

We were going to cross at a different spot this year, Algodones which is right outside of Yuma so stayed there for the night -our room was fine and we walked to dinner at Cracker Barrell - once we get out of the car we have no desire to drive anyplace to eat!

After stopping at McDonalds for breakfast to go, we were almost to the border when the time changed - so instead of crossing at 7, we crossed at 6 which was perfect!  We were 3rd in line and it was a super easy process to cross and do the paperwork.  Glenn had printed out satellite maps of where to go and had good directions written down BUT it didn't work well as once we got out of town, other towns were NOT marked at all and road signs to turn on were non-existent!!  So we missed our turn and meandered through tiny towns and farm country - it was nice BUT instead of taking an hour to get to our main road, it took 3 hours!!!  That was not fun !

But the drive went well and we arrived close to 6 at San Ignacio to stay at the yurts, one of our favorite places!!  We know the owners now - Paul and Bonnie - and enjoy visiting with other people that are staying there.  Dinner was served and we sat with 2 couples who were a lot of fun!

In case you're thinking that the Baja is completely flat and all desert, you would be wrong!  There are mountains to go through and some of the windy, curvy roads are worse than Colorado passes!  Add that to the narrow, no shoulder roads and it makes for some scary driving at times!!  I took this picture through the filthy windshield but it kind of shows the roads we are on!

And it's always fun when we can see the Sea of Cortez!!  A beautiful sight!

More to come.....

January Photo Dump

In the blink of an eye, January has left us!  Which means it must be getting very close to the time when we head to warmer weather, beaches and palm trees!

But let's finish up January first!  This is what I did on New Year's Day - updated the new calendars, updated my gray book (which has all the important stuff we do each year!), blogged, drank coffee and ate butter braid and watched the parade!

Isn't this shirt cute?  I ordered it to wear at Christmas next year but may just have to wear it before that!

Any time you can have coffee on the front porch in JANUARY is a great day!

A beautiful sunrise!

Celebrating Arlyne's birthday along with Beth!

Apple cider mixed with a shot of butterscotch schnapps with whip cream and caramel syrup on top!

My bargain of the day - I use these plastic tubs to put cracker mix in each year to hand out to friends and relatives so I'm ALWAYS needing them!  This year most people gave them back to me so I have a large supply on hand BUT when I went to Walmart, they were 90% off so just had to buy them - nine cents apiece!!  WOW!

And that's a wrap for January!

Ice Fishing In New Mexico

The rescheduled trip to New Mexico for ice fishing was a GO - yes, the ice was thick enough (although not for ATV's)!  Glenn and I headed down on Thursday morning - I had called to see if I could do an early check in to our cabin and she said it was no problem, so we arrived by 1:00!  This picture is rounding the corner with a view of the lake before you get into Eagle Nest.

Glenn and I quickly unpacked the car and he headed out to fish - I got the unpacking organized and of course a book was calling me by this point, so you KNOW what I did!

He had a successful first day!

I had brought dinner for that evening so we just stayed in the cabin!  Glenn always goes to bed early since he gets up so early!  The separate bedroom was pretty darn cold as the wall heater didn't reach much into there so we were both cold in bed that night - so we definitely switched that up for the next couple of nights and we were fine!

I guess one of the reasons we were cold was because of THIS TEMP that Glenn took a picture of when he got out to the car!!!  BRRRRRR!

I'm glad it was HIM out fishing and not me!  I took a short walk about 10:00 but it was only 7 degrees by that time and it was just too darn cold to be out walking!  Glenn had a great day though and caught his limit!

Our neighbors Peggy and Al arrived about 6:00 on Friday night and we immediately went out to eat at the ONLY restaurant open in town during the winter!

It was warmer on Saturday morning - they all headed out early to get a spot as it was tournament day - none of them registered for it but as you can see by the picture, there were a LOT of huts out there - Glenn said when they announced the winners, that over 500 had registered that day!  WOW!

Peggy was kind enough to take some pictures as I never get many from Glenn so I appreciated that!

There's THE MAN!

Glenn's sled that he pulls out on the ice when he can't take the ATV.

I did take a couple of walks on Saturday as it did warm up a little bit - there's not too much to see in the town and all the shops are closed up in the winter but it's still fun to walk around!

The 3 of them had a great time fishing with plenty of fish to clean when they got back in - we headed back to the restaurant for dinner again - 3 of us ordered Mexican which was WAY TOO SPICY!  I suffered with heartburn that night when I went to bed!

They cleaned all the fish at our cabin and then it was early to bed as early to rise for them!  I ended up reading 2 books at the cabin and played lots of word games on my phone - I love the Wordle and Wordus word games and spend a lot of time playing those - at least it keeps my mind active - maybe?

Sunday morning I woke up early too and enjoyed the beautiful sky that morning!

They fished till about noon and then packed up to come and get me - I had gotten a late check out so that worked out just fine!!  Glenn counted up that he had caught around 80 perch so I'd say that was a success!

New Mexico ice fishing never disappoints!!
