Beach Walking

I  may not be a water person but I sure love the beach!!  Every morning you'll find me out there doing my morning walk - I walk a little over a mile every day, barefoot!  It took me a few days until my feet were used to the sand because parts of the beach are gravelly.    And the first week we were here, the sand was downright COLD at that time of the morning!

Glenn will join me once in a while to walk but he chooses to wear tennis shoes and stay away from the incoming waves while I walk right along the beach line and many times the water comes over my feet - and sometimes the crashing waves!  My capris' have been wet numerous times!!

I'm always on the lookout for shells to give to Gwyn - and it's pretty tough to find one as this isn't a shell beach at all!!  But once in a while I'm lucky and find one!

My favorite part of the beach - just beach!!  And miles of sand...............

The Man Loves To Fish!

If it's not windy out, you'll find Glenn in his small raft out fishing!  He brought a blow up raft down along with a small motor that he attaches and when it's calm, he'll be gone for 6 or more hours at a time!  He hasn't caught a lot of fish but that doesn't deter him one bit!  If he doesn't go out in his boat, he fishes from shore.

Glenn found someone that likes to fish even MORE than he does!!  "Cowboy" is on the beach daily with his rod and reel - he even has a small boat down here!

One evening after sunset we drove down the beach - the sky was a pretty pink!

Yes, I AM IN MEXICO, even though I'm not in a lot of pictures!!

Our local iguana who loves to sun himself on this particular rock!

And a strange looking fish that Glenn caught!

Rice and Beans OR Beans and Rice

One of the above names is a franchise - and the other a name of a new place here in town that has opened up!  We went to it the other day and enjoyed tacos - very good!

But what caught our eye is what the tables and chairs were made out of - pallets!!  What a great way to use those pallets!

Santiago

Hot Springs here we come!!  It might seem a little strange to go to a hot springs when it's pretty warm outside but I was excited to go!

Our friends Eric and Hillary invited us to go with them - they had been before and since it's out in the middle of nowhere on a bumpy dirt road, we knew that would be the best way!

First though, a stop in the town of Santiago as Hillary thought there was a museum there - at least Trip Advisor said there was..............but no luck..............there was a beautiful church though so we stopped in to check it out!

Lunch was next on the agenda!  Glenn discovered he didn't like the "mole" sauce on his enchilada so he won't be ordering that again!  I had an enchilada chicken cheese casserole and it was very good

And then it was off to the hot springs on this dusty, winding road - there was a tiny village we went through that had a nice church but not much else.  And after about 1/2 hour drive we arrived and there was an old man sitting under a tree with a small table.  We each paid 50 pesos to go in and had to sign our name, age and address!

Then we walked down a rocky rather steep trail and arrived at the springs!  It was a HOT day so I'm sure on a cooler day the water would have felt better but we got in and enjoyed the warmth for a while!  It was all completely natural!

Back behind Glenn you can crawl over some rocks and there is a cool pool there.

And Hillary is standing in another cool pool that we crawled in before we left to cool off!  What a unique place!!

Life In The Baja

With company gone, we have gotten down to day to day living!  For Glenn, that means fishing and for me, that means reading!

If the weather is calm, Glenn is up at the crack of dawn, heading out to fish!  I'm up shortly afterward to do my stretches and then head out for my walk on the beach!  Once in a while I do up some laundry and sweep through our casita - but mostly the days are spent reading or on the computer.

Sunday was windy so there was no fishing to be done!  We headed into town via the beach to have coffee at this new outdoor coffee place we had seen!  They did make mochas but no flavorings - what a beautiful design on the top of our coffee!

After coffee we headed to the local art/craft show that is held once a year - lots of things to look at!  They had kids from the local school do several dances which was fun to watch!

Later that afternoon we had friends over for happy hour - life is good!!

The Wind and the Calm

Even though we had windy days, we also had an extremely calm day while Jill was here!!  It's always nice to have a breeze but sometimes wind gets tiresome!!  We enjoyed just spending time together, walking the beach, reading, and sun bathing!

Jill decided she wanted to get in when the waves were crashing!!  I chose NOT to!!  But she enjoyed it!

Wednesday we had a perfect calm day!!  So Jill and I took the double kayak out - we did great getting it out without falling in the water and it was perfect out there kayaking!  We went out twice even and it was SO FUN!!!!   We also swam together in the ocean - we walked down in front of the hot springs hotel and there were places in the water that were very warm from the springs - that was neat!!

It's fun to take the stairs up to the rooftop!  The views are awesome from up there and it's a great place if you want to catch some rays!

The last night before she left, we had decided to go to the beach bar, El Gecko!  Since we were all cleaned up and looking good, we had Glenn take our picture!

Glenn and Jill decided to do a tequila shot before we headed out!!  We should have bought some shot glasses as there are NONE in this place!!

It's a long ways to El Gecko as it's on the other end of Los Barriles but we made the best of it as we all 3 squeezed on the ATV!!!  Jill ordered a mango daiquiri and I ordered a banana daiquiri - which I won't have to order again as I didn't care for it!!  And for their Happy Hour, they just bring you 2 drinks at once!!!

The  table side guacamole was excellent as usual and our food was good too!  We even had the honor of listening to a strolling mariacha band!  Glenn was his usual crazy self so we all got a laugh out of him!

Oh and I almost forgot - on our way to the beach bar, we saw dolphins jumping out in the ocean - so cool!!!   We stopped and bought tortillas for Jill to take home and unfortunately she had to pack that night so we could head to the airport in the morning!!

What an awesome time having her here!!

Jill Arrives

How fun to look forward to Jill flying into Cabo and spending a few days with us!!  Not long after Dave and Leslie left, it was time to head to the airport to pick her up!   We parked the truck in a parking lot and headed in, only to discover her flight had been delayed an hour..............luckily there was a very nice waiting room INSIDE as it was 92 degrees when we pulled in!!

And soon she arrived!!  How fun it was to have her here!!  We piled in the truck and went to the exit and there was a large van in front of us that we waited and waited for and finally they motioned for us to back up - so we did - and the car in front of us went through the exit but we tried our parking ticket and it wouldn't work and also discovered there was no place to put any money!!  REALLY???

So we backed up and the gal from the van was walking down from the airport with an attendant - she was nice enough to tell us that you had to pay at a location up by where you walk in and THEN bring your paid ticket and stick it in!!  So Jill and I jumped out and walked up while Glenn circled the small parking lot!  We found the place to pay and got it taken care of and this time when we put the ticket in, the arm raised and we could get out!!  Always an airport story...............

It's only an hours' drive to the airport so it didn't take long to get Jill back here and settled in!!  It was extremely windy the first couple of days she was here!!

Check out those palm trees blowing!!!

It was interesting putting 3 of us on the ATV to drive to town - yes, we could have taken the truck in but it's so large to park and the main road through town is so narrow it's just easier to take the ATV!  Glenn sat up close to the handle bars and I sat right behind him - we made it work!!

Jill had said before that she wanted some of that yummy shrimp and sangria that we had for our anniversary so that's where we headed!!  She wasn't disappointed!!

Our meal was once again excellent!!  We sat in the back this time so just had to get a picture of the pirate in the background since we were eating at El Pirata!!

33 Years and Counting!

Happy Anniversary to us - and what an awesome place to celebrate our anniversary!  I woke up early and saw the sun coming up in this gorgeous sunrise so went to the roof and clicked away!  WOW - it was amazing!!

Glenn went out fishing and got a couple of 20# fish!!  Unfortunately it's not the kind we like to eat so he gave it away!

I knew I wanted shrimp for dinner so checked online and El Pirata seemed to be the place to go!  It was in a very nondescript place so we weren't sure if the food would be to our liking but it sure was!!  I ordered a sangria - excellent - full of fruit and SO GOOD!!!

Glenn ordered coconut shrimp - we had NO IDEA the presentation would be done so well!!

And I ordered the shrimp imperial - very large prawns butterflied and stuffed with cheese, then wrapped in bacon and grilled!!  Oh  my gosh - it was SO GOOD!!!

We were both thrilled with the meals we had - an excellent way to celebrate our anniversary!!

A Trip To San Bartolo

Finding coffee in Mexico the way I like it is usually pretty hard - but when meeting Dave and Leslie for coffee, they did have some so I tried it!  The whip cream and chocolate on top were great but the actual mocha was just OK - better than nothing!!

We headed out on the ATV's to take the back roads to San Bartolo - it was a nice drive with plenty of sunshine!!

When we could go no further due to a fence we took a side road that went up and up and up, since we were driving through the arroyo!  It was a little dicey as soon we came to an actual house right by the road and sitting right in our way was a huge dog.  We stopped the ATV's and Glenn said let's go on through so we did - yes, the dog moved and posed no threat!

We stopped at the little local store to get something to drink and then headed back down another way to have our lunch.  I saw this huge tree with some shade and knew it would be the perfect spot !  Check out that root system!

Some of the scenery we drove by on our way!

Looking down from above!

On the way back, we were driving over this tiny steam of water and all of a sudden there was this huge explosion like sound!!!  Scared us plenty and I just knew we had blown a tire although there were no rocks around!!  I looked down at my legs and there was little bits of foam all over them and foam all under the box that's attached to the back!  We got off and checked the tires and everything else we could think of but it all looked OK - Glenn kept saying it looked like a can of "fix a flat" had exploded but he didn't have any in the box!!

After we got back to town, he realized that there is a hidden tool box UNDER the box on the back (which you can't get to unless you take the box off) and he had never looked in it so there was probably one of those cans inside and it exploded due to the high heat and then hitting the cold water!  Easiest explanation he could come up with!

And a stop at the beach bar!!

Another fun day with friends!

Just A Small Fish

Glenn, Dave and Eric were going fishing...............that meant after Glenn's early morning, I got to sleep in just a little bit!!  I enjoyed my morning walk on the beach and catching a few rays while drinking my morning coffee!

The guys didn't have any luck fishing till they were pulling into the dock and this guy was caught!

The guys took the fish to a local restaurant to cook and we all went there to eat it!  The pina colada was not only BIG but very good!!

The six of us had a great meal eating that fish prepared 3 different ways and visiting!

Another day in paradise!
