Oklahoma City Bound

I  believe we were still in Mexico when Jill asked me about going to Oklahoma City (OKC) with her and Aleah for a softball tournament - I only needed to think about it for a couple of days as I decided that would be a fun trip with a daughter and a granddaughter!

So on an early Thursday morning Jill headed out with Aleah and was to meet me outside of Colorado Springs at an exit since Glenn was headed to fish at Pueblo!  What would we do without cell phones and trackers?  Jill texted that there was a bad accident on I25 and they were being detoured off - I checked out the news and sure enough there was an overturned semi with debris ALL over the interstate!  So it set them back over an hour meeting us - but we had all day to get there so no worries!

We made the exchange at the exit and headed on into Pueblo to get gas AND coffee - always a must for a trip!  The first place was closed (bummer) but the other place was only about a mile away so we headed there - as we went to get out of the car, Jill's face went white and said that she left her purse at home!!  OH NO!!!!!  I had a credit card and some cash along so money wasn't the problem, but she didn't even have her drivers' license - so after ordering coffee, she called Robby and he was going to overnight it to the hotel - WHEW!

The drive was LONG!  Maps had told us the way we went was the least miles and the fastest time but that certainly wasn't the case!  The route was through many small towns with lights and zig zags to get on the right highways so we really had to pay attention - and we decided after the drive that we would NOT be going home that way!  We went through New Mexico AND Texas to finally reach OKC!

The hotel didn't look bad at all from the outside (although the parking lot wasn't clean) and the inside was fine!  We got checked into our hotel room which had 2 queen beds and immediately left again to go eat dinner - our room wasn't far from the steps (we were on the 3rd floor - yay - no noise above us) so we used them quite a bit as there was only ONE elevator but the steps were unclean and a little creepy!

Aleah picked Freddie's for dinner and it was great, especially the turtle sundae I had!  Back to the room we all unpacked and got situated - and of course realized the fan did NOT work in the bathroom - bummer!  SO we asked the front desk to have the maintenance man check it while we were gone the next day!

Friday morning I checked out the breakfast and was NOT impressed - oh well - I had brought yogurt and Jill had made egg and meat bites to microwave - yes, we did have a frig with a tiny freezer and a microwave that smelled like burnt popcorn - and along with the muffins from downstairs, we made do!

There was nothing going on in the morning but by noon the girls were all to meet at a couple of events that were going on!  We headed to the first one, only to realize the coach had mixed up the addresses of the two events but everyone else went there too so the girls walked around, as did we!  It was pretty warm out so we ended up sitting in the car till Aleah was ready to go and then headed to the other event!  This one was at a field where the girls could compete in running and other softball fun things!  Jill and I pitched our chairs and umbrella right outside the field so we could watch as it was HOT out by then!

We all headed to Texas Roadhouse after the events  - except we FIRST stopped back at the hotel to see if the package for Jill had arrived and sure enough it was there - HOORAY!!!

Tx. Roadhouse is always good!  I limited myself to only 2 rolls so I could actually eat some of my dinner - HA!  And we were impressed and pleased that the coach and the assistant coach paid for all of our meals that night!

Back to the room, and of course the fan wasn't working (per the front desk it needed a part) and the air felt SO HEAVY in that room due to the humidity having nowhere to go after showers!  And somehow the evening got late before we even headed to bed!

Saturday after breakfast we headed to Dutch Bros for coffee!  Always enjoyable!

Aleah headed to the College Girls World Series and Jill and I took off for our "girls day" fun!  First on the list was the Botanical Gardens - and our GPS took us right to it with a parking garage that would comp your ticket if you went inside the conservatory!

The gardens were very pretty and we enjoyed walking around!

The outside wasn't real large so we headed into the huge tunnel - WOW - it was amazing!

The flowers and plants were gorgeous - this was one of my favorites!

There were 3 levels you could access and we did all 3 of them!

I loved this round window so had Jill take my picture!

To be cont'd......
