Baja Fun

We always enjoy taking the ATV down the beach and around the corner where the rocks are - we used to find a lot of glass down that way - this year not as much!  But it's beautiful around those rocks and it's just fun to walk around!

This was a calm day so the pickings were pretty good!!  On windy days, not so much!

Remember when Glenn and I won the "predictions" money at Christmas?  I was hungry for garlic shrimp so we decided to eat at Barriles Grill and the shrimp was very good (as was the pina colada)! We even had some leftover money for ice cream at a later date!

With all the wind we've been having, the kiters have been out in full force!  I can't imagine how they manipulate those things but it's great entertainment to watch it!

Celebrating A Milestone

Our friends that we traveled to Mexico with - Del and Linda - celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Feb. 13th!  Although their family is not flying down until April to celebrate, they wanted to do something special - so invited a few guests over for dinner - and hired a chef to prepare a meal for us!

We enjoyed drinks and appetizers before the meal was served.

I wish I could tell you the name of the one dish but I don't remember - it's chiles stuffed with a meat mixture and it was VERY hot!!  I was glad I didn't take one but did have a bite of Glenn's and that was enough for me - HA!  The chicken enchiladas were delicious, along with the rice, refried beans and salad!  And of course the guacamole is ALWAYS delicious in Mexico!

Here's the group that attended!  It was fun meeting a new couple, along with seeing again their realtor (they just bought this house).

We enjoyed the evening and were glad we could celebrate this special occasion with them!

Hot Tub Time

We love our hot tub out front - just turn the tap on and it fills with the "spa" hot water from the hot springs!  Last year it was so hot we had to let it cool down before we got in - this time it was just right!

Glenn didn't actually catch the fish in the next picture in the hot tub - ha!!  Somehow it's in the wrong spot once again!!  But he did enjoy catching it!

I do love it when the sky turns pink at sunset!

We're enjoying the relaxing Baja life!

Fish

In between the wind, Glenn gets to fish in his boat!  But there has been a lot of wind lately - sometimes 3 days of wind and then a couple of nice days!  Glenn has pretty much gotten it down pat as to how to get the boat in the water with the atv - it seems to change a little every year but so far, he's been doing a great job of even doing it by himself!

By the time he comes back in though, the swells in the ocean make it a little more difficult so I'm always watching to help him!  Since the ATV needs to come back up after he launches, I can drive it back down when I see him coming in and help him hold the boat!

We've enjoyed many meals of fish, along with leftovers for fish tacos!  He's caught quite a variety and some work better on the grill, some are better pan fried.

Blogger is doing their crazy picture switch but the above picture was sunset - I love it when the ocean looks pink!!

I know the skinny fish is a wahoo and it was really tasty!!  The large fish Glenn is holding is a jack creville - we don't eat it but the Mexicans love it!  Glenn has caught two and takes them a street up to where a house is being built and they're thrilled to have the fish!

Super Bowl 2021

Super Bowl Sunday never excites me because I'm not a football fan - I rarely watch it although it is fun to see some of the commercials!  Because we had brought down a new tv AND I had gotten a new laptop this last year, we figured we wouldn't have any problem watching it!

Neither one of our 2 sets of close friends are hooked up to any stations so we volunteered to have the super bowl party at our place!  Robby assured me we wouldn't have any problem streaming from the computer!  He downloaded a VPN website so we THOUGHT we were all ready!

Unfortunately, we were streaming through Amazon and it came up we were in Mexico so wasn't allowed to stream it - so Robby downloaded another VPN and we tried it out right before our company came and it worked - hooray!!

In the meantime, all of this took LOTS of time - I was behind and company came early so I was a little frazzled as didn't have my dip even made yet!  The guys wanted to watch the pre-game so I had started the computer and had it on, but when I unplugged it and took it over to the tv, there was no sound and it was just stuck!!  Once again, Robby came to the rescue!!  Seems like once you plug it all in, you have to start it over and not try and just continue it!!  A big thanks to Robby for getting it all set up for us and our company really appreciated it too!

There was PLENTY of food - I had made a hot dip served with tortilla chips and the others had brought snacks and dips too!  We made a huge batch of wings that we had gotten at Costco and served them with carrots, celery and ranch dressing!

I also made mango daiquiris which are always good!!

Like our curtains?  We had offered to bring drapes down this year but the owner said no, he wanted to keep it simple!  So we used our sheets from last year - maybe I should get a matching pair at least!!

We ended the evening with lasagna and salad - and then later with ice cream and yummy toppings!  A great day spent with friends! (and yes, football too!)

The Good Life

Life in Mexico - sunrises, walking the beach, reading, fishing, visiting with friends and enjoying the sunshine!

Sunset at the hotel where we ate the stuffed potatoes!

A gorgeous sunrise!

This man would fish day and night if he could!

I love the wispy clouds in this photo!

Windy days and calm days - Glenn plans his boat days on the wind and the other days he fishes from shore! We're enjoying the warm temps, especially since back home seems to be having a deep freeze right now!

Taco Tuesday

Since the house we rent is in Spa Buena Vista, we are about 3 miles from town where we do most everything, including where to go when we want to go out to eat!  There are actually 2 hotels in our area right on the beach.  We have eaten at the Rancho before and it's OK - nothing special but the view - it's fantastic!!

The other place to eat is at the Spa Hotel - a lot of our neighbors walk down there for happy hour and we've been down there too but I was never impressed with the drinks or the meals they serve.  This year is different!  They must have a whole new crew because they've introduced Taco Tuesday and Thirsty Thursdays.

The 6 of us decided to go to Taco Tuesday - there is quite a bit of outdoor seating but it was all reserved in advance - you need to be on the ball to get an outside seat!  We sat inside and the taco menu was unlike anything we've ever seen!  Some of the choices were really unique and the waitress was kind enough to explain a lot of the details about them!

I ended up ordering a shrimp taco on a blue corn tortilla, machaca (which is a beef or fish mixture mixed with different items - I ordered fish), and a veggie potato taco - all 3 were excellent!!

Here's the group - not a great pic of everyone but it's a classic!

Sunrise the next morning - they just keep getting better!

Glenn up and working trimming those trees!

Life has settled into a comfortable routine of sorts - it's still chilly walking the beach in the mornings but each day it will get warmer!

Nature At Its' Best

Our arrival on Jan. 28th greeted us with a full moon - it was beautiful shining on the ocean!

The bed felt pretty darn good that night so we both slept well!  I was excited to get up and on the beach in the early morning and it was gorgeous out!

Our first sunrise didn't disappoint!

I spent most of the day unpacking and organizing!  The kitchen cabinets always need a GOOD cleaning before I put my stuff in them so that was a great job to get done!  Glenn headed over to the place where we stored the boat and the ATV and got it all moved over to our place!  A busy day but when you can look at the ocean, it doesn't really feel like you're even working!

And It's Time To Escape Winter

We're packed and ready to head to Baja!!  But weather gets in the way so our plans changed 3 times before we actually left!  Our first plan was to meet Del and Linda (our friends who we were traveling with) in Flagstaff - now for us that's about a 12 1/2 hour drive which would make a pretty long day.  So we decided to split it up and leave a day earlier to spend the first night in Albuquerque!

And then the weather changed in Flagstaff - a large blizzard was headed that way on the day we were to arrive - after phone calls to our friends and lots of decision making, they decided to just meet us at the border and we would just stay by ourselves the first night - so I made reservations - and then the next day the blizzard path changed and we would be hitting snow so we decided to just head straight south and go by the Tucson route this time!

We spent our first night in Deming, NM - no eating in restaurants so we got takeout at a local Mexican restaurant and took it back to our rooms to eat - way too HOT for my tastes!! And then it was on to Calexico the next day - we exchanged our money before we headed to the hotel to meet our friends and it was great to see them.  Again, no dining in so we picked up our food from Applebee's and ate in our rooms once again!

Breakfast was grab and go and we headed to the border in the dark!  The crossing went smoothly and their trailer only delayed us about 1/2 hour longer than normal!  We were sure surprised to see snow on the mountains to our west and later found out CA had quite a storm too!

The first day's drive was uneventful - hooray!!!!  We stopped for lunch at a beautiful sea view!

Our first night's stop was at The Halfway Inn in Guerro Negro - the hotel was fine and we just ate dinner right there at the hotel which was nice as we did NOT want to get back in our cars to drive somewhere!

We all enjoyed breakfast at the hotel and were on our way once again - that night we stopped at one of our favorite stops outside of Loreto - the Tripui Hotel.  It's a super nice place to stay and we felt right at home there - hardly anyone else was there!  We took a long walk to stretch our legs and then enjoyed a wonderful dinner!  Linda had a caprese salad and the presentation was so pretty!

I loved my tortilla soup!

The view out the back of the hotel of the mountains is magnificent in the mornings!

And the view changes quickly with the sun!

We stopped at one town and bought a large bag of oranges (which are extremely yummy this year) and then Del got a flat tire on his car - luckily we were just at the edge of a town with a huge spot to pull off.  Glenn always brings tools along and tried several things but the cut in the tire was too bad - we ended up calling someone and they came out and put the spare on and we were back on our way!

We arrived in Spa Buena Vista about 4:30!  It was great to finally be at our place and start unpacking!

Glenn's Fishing Weekend

Glenn had a great time fishing up in S. Dakota with sons Neal and Todd, grandson Chance and son-in-law Brad!  He ended up with a one way ticket into Sioux Falls, SD where Neal picked him up and then road back with Brad so it worked out well!

I don't know many of the details except it was COLD and they FISHED and they had fun!  Here are the pictures:

And the catch of the weekend!!

Onto warmer weather next!!
