And It's Time To Escape Winter

We're packed and ready to head to Baja!!  But weather gets in the way so our plans changed 3 times before we actually left!  Our first plan was to meet Del and Linda (our friends who we were traveling with) in Flagstaff - now for us that's about a 12 1/2 hour drive which would make a pretty long day.  So we decided to split it up and leave a day earlier to spend the first night in Albuquerque!

And then the weather changed in Flagstaff - a large blizzard was headed that way on the day we were to arrive - after phone calls to our friends and lots of decision making, they decided to just meet us at the border and we would just stay by ourselves the first night - so I made reservations - and then the next day the blizzard path changed and we would be hitting snow so we decided to just head straight south and go by the Tucson route this time!

We spent our first night in Deming, NM - no eating in restaurants so we got takeout at a local Mexican restaurant and took it back to our rooms to eat - way too HOT for my tastes!! And then it was on to Calexico the next day - we exchanged our money before we headed to the hotel to meet our friends and it was great to see them.  Again, no dining in so we picked up our food from Applebee's and ate in our rooms once again!

Breakfast was grab and go and we headed to the border in the dark!  The crossing went smoothly and their trailer only delayed us about 1/2 hour longer than normal!  We were sure surprised to see snow on the mountains to our west and later found out CA had quite a storm too!

The first day's drive was uneventful - hooray!!!!  We stopped for lunch at a beautiful sea view!

Our first night's stop was at The Halfway Inn in Guerro Negro - the hotel was fine and we just ate dinner right there at the hotel which was nice as we did NOT want to get back in our cars to drive somewhere!

We all enjoyed breakfast at the hotel and were on our way once again - that night we stopped at one of our favorite stops outside of Loreto - the Tripui Hotel.  It's a super nice place to stay and we felt right at home there - hardly anyone else was there!  We took a long walk to stretch our legs and then enjoyed a wonderful dinner!  Linda had a caprese salad and the presentation was so pretty!

I loved my tortilla soup!

The view out the back of the hotel of the mountains is magnificent in the mornings!

And the view changes quickly with the sun!

We stopped at one town and bought a large bag of oranges (which are extremely yummy this year) and then Del got a flat tire on his car - luckily we were just at the edge of a town with a huge spot to pull off.  Glenn always brings tools along and tried several things but the cut in the tire was too bad - we ended up calling someone and they came out and put the spare on and we were back on our way!

We arrived in Spa Buena Vista about 4:30!  It was great to finally be at our place and start unpacking!
