Comfort At Its Best

After 30 some years of sleeping in a water bed, we made the decision (or should I should I made the decision) that it was time to get rid of the water bed and buy a regular bed!!

So the end of January we picked out a new one at Denver Mattress and then I ordered all new bedding from Overstock.com!!!  I had a hard time deciding what I wanted since the bedroom is done in an African theme but I LOVE what I ordered!!

It was fun getting new flannel sheets, an electric blanket, mattress pad and then the comforter with matching bed skirt, shams and pillows!!

Because of our busy schedule, we just didn't have time to drain the water bed and get the new bed set up but once we arrived home from vacation, the process began!!  And it was ONE huge process to drain that bed in the middle of winter and then try to get that mattress down the steps as there is no way to get ALL of the water out!!  But Glenn and I managed and after disassembling the frame and cleaning, the new bed was set up!!

I cleaned the bedroom GOOD since it was a great time to do that and finally it was time to make the bed with the new linens!!!  Everything fit fine and it was exciting sleeping in it for the first night!

Goodbye water bed - you served us well but it was definitely time to move on!!

Winding Down...................

We were down to our final full day in Cabo!!  Patty and Leonard and Glenn and I decided to play a round of miniature golf - the course was right above the ocean and we had a great time just goofing around and TRYING to keep the ball on the course so it wouldn't roll off!!

But first, a couple of pictures from Patty's album!!

I'm not generally very good at miniature golf but it was fun trying!!
Mixed up pics again - this was taken out of our room and I was trying to get the reflection in the pool!
What a neat picture - playing golf in front of the ocean!!!

We enjoyed the rest of the day by the pool and spent some time in the hot tub before cleaning up for dinner!!!  But Patty and Leonard ended up ordering room service as she had a sore ankle from twisting it while she was trying to retrieve a ball!!

Glenn and I went down and ate the Mediterranean buffet which was excellent!!!  And after checking to make sure Patty was OK, we did some packing and turned in for the night!!

One last coffee!

And one last look at the ocean before it was time to head to the airport!

Right before we left for the airport, I got an email that the plane was already delayed about 45 minutes - guess the snowstorm in the midwest was affecting travel!!  By the time we got to the airport, it was delayed a couple of hours so we were late getting into Denver!!  But at least the Iowa bunch made their flight to Omaha!!  Always nice to get home, even though it WAS a little colder!!

Another wonderful trip to Mexico!!  And now time to plan the next one!!

Just Another Day In Paradise..........

A different view of our resort - taken from the lobby!!  After breakfast, Glenn and I took a taxi into town to see if he could find this tequila that he loves at the "Mega" - a place we had been to 4 or 5 years ago when we were in Cabo - unfortunately they didn't carry it this time so he had to get another brand to bring back!!

We spent most of the day on the beach - watching the whales play - reading - sleeping - and generally just enjoying life!!!

The rest of the bunch headed into Cabo to shop some more and to do a sunset cruise around the arch - we had done this the last time we were in Cabo so opted to just here at the resort and eat at the fancy place again - Arrecifes - we dressed up and took some great photos before going in for drinks!
The place was once again fantastic!!!  Drinks served on the open deck first and then on inside where we were seated right next to the best view of the ocean!!!

The meal again took almost 3 hours and we had a wonderful time just eating away and visiting!  I enoyed the lobster while Glenn had a filet mignon - both were excellent!!  By the time it was all over, we were all so full and tired that we just headed back to our rooms - sleeping sounded a whole lot better than partying!!!!

Whale Watching

WOW - it was great to wake up to this beautiful sunrise that I could see from the bed!!  It was the first day we had colors like this!!

Breakfast and a walk on the beach were in order!!  There are lots of neat places to take pictures!

This pelican was just hanging out on the beach and didn't seem scared when we walked close by and took his picture!!

This is a picture of part of the resort that includes the lobby - I took this pic out of our front door looking across - pretty wild colors, huh?

One of the neatest things we have been seeing are the whales!!!  Not just one or two out in the water  - we're talking many, many whales, day after day!!!  They seem to come around about 7:00am and all throughout the day they're out there blowing bubbles and jumping up  out of the water!! It's fun to sit on the beach and just watch them!!

It was a nice relaxing day spent in chaise lounges drinking smoothies and mango margaritas - watching the whales - visiting - stopping for lunch -reading - and generally just relaxing, which is what I needed!!

Late afternoon Glenn and I got in the hot tub - nothing like soaking in hot water while looking at the gorgeous beach!!!

The day was cloudy at times and was a little cooler but it was great weather for just hanging out!!  We had drinks up at the bar where we ate last night and finally walked down later to have some Mexican food at the buffet!!!    The Sports Bar was up next for some air hockey and pool!!!

Hmmmmm....  Guess Blogger decided to post the hot tub pic at the bottom - until tomorrow........

Resort Relaxation

The 5:30am wake up call sure came early and LOUD - especially when the front desk makes a mistake and calls you at 5:00am and then again at 5:30am!!  So much for sleeping in............

Glenn and the guys headed out for a day of deep sea fishing - the girls hung out at the resort!!

Patty and I enjoyed a great breakfast together, took a long walk on the beach and then had coffee and pastries at the Royal Beach Club!!

And this is where we spent the next couple of hours - lounging in the sun with books in hand and drinking a mango smoothie - yum!!!!!

At lunch that day, we split an order of "fruit sticks" (fresh fruit cut up in long pieces and served with a dip and also a small cup of red spices)  I looked at those spices and told Patty that I thought it was the spice I had tasted in Akumal last fall when I had the fantastic mango margarita with the red spice around the rim!!!  Sure enough, I asked the waiter and it was!!!!  You can bet that was on the agenda for the evening!!!

Everyone enjoyed a relaxing afternoon and before we knew it the guys were back from fishing!!  Leonard was the only one to catch a fish but they all had fun and that's what counts!!!

We had dinner reservations at an extremely nice restaurant that night so we all dressed up and took a few pictures!!

The restaurant and bar is set on a hillside with glass  windows 1/2 way around the place - gorgeous!!  I enjoyed my mango margarita with the red spice on the rim and everyone else seemed to think it was great too!!!

From 6:30 to 9:30 we ate - course after course - drink after drink!!!!  Here's a pic of Glenn's appetizer, a tuna dish!

And this was my entree, shrimp diablo which was delicious!

Thanks again Blogger for moving my pics around - one never knows where a pic is going to show up!!!

And last was dessert - the best of all!!!  I had chocolate lava cake with fresh berries and the coldest, tartest sorbet I've ever tasted - pair that with a great cup of Mexican decaff coffee and I was set!!

No partying for us after that meal - we headed to our rooms and it was LIGHTS OUT!!!

Downtown Fun!

Listening to the crashing ocean waves all night long was pretty neat!  Some of them were extremely loud and I would have to stop and think where I was actually at!!

Glenn and I slipped over to the Royal Beach Club for a quick breakfast on their beautiful patio before taking a walk on the beach - unlike a lot of beaches we've been to, this beach was nice and long and we walked over a mile before it was time to change into swimsuits and enjoy the sunny weather and the pools!!

Because Carol and Vern were only staying 3 nights, we decided to journey into town to hit a few places - we all piled into a large van and headed into Cabo where the guys met their fishing captain for the next day and the girls went shopping!!  The anchor made for a great photo op!

Drinks at the Oyster Bar next to the marina was not only fun but quite entertaining as we people watched - quite the characters in this town!!

And the girls just had to sit by this old hombre sitting outside a store!

We me the guys at the Gigging Marlin for drinks and chips - lots of cute stuff to look at on the walls!

And we ended up at Cabo Wabo - a must place to visit if you're in Cabo!!

Al and Kris - Jim and Brenda
Vern and Carol - Sandy and Tom

Glenn, Patty and Leonard
Our van driver picked us up at 8:30 and we were whisked back to the resort where we ate a late dinner and headed to our rooms since all the guys had a 5:30 wake up call for fishing the next day!!

Oh, did I forget to mention that the "Grans" had their farm meeting in the morning??  We couldn't have picked a better spot to hold it - right by the beach!!

If It's Warm & Sunny, We Must Be In Mexico!!!

Cabo - the perfect place to spend our February vacation with family!!  And this year was just a little different as friends from the Soldier area joined us - Carol and Vern, Sandy and Tom, and Al and Kris!!  We were a total of 12 as the 5 couples from Iowa joined Glenn and I at the Denver airport and all flew to Cabo together!  Sunny beautiful weather when we landed, a quick trip through customs and we were off in the vans to our destination, the Westin!

Check out the view from our balcony!!  One of the BEST views we have ever had of the ocean and the white sand!!!

The grounds were immaculate, the pools were gorgeous and the architecture is out of this world!!

 Yes, you SHOULD be here!!!!

Our room is on the 7th floor which is the bottom floor of this arch, about 3 windows in!!

Very nice rooms, wonderful balconies and all the little perks of being "preferred" guests!!  It was pretty confusing on the first day, trying to figure out the elevators and where to go but I think we finally have it down!  The Royal Beach Club was once again ours to use with special food and drinks at different times of the day!!  It DID take us a while to find the place and just today we found a quicker way to get there!  You can't believe all the steps in this resort!!

That's it for today - time to dress for dinner and a photo shoot!!

Suite Retreat 2013

Hard to imagine it's been a year since I blogged about the last Suite Retreat!!  But the time had come again to head to Co. Springs with all 3 girls to scrapbook the weekend away!  To prepare myself for all that sitting, I decided to have a massage before heading over - since my massage gal has now moved to the Springs, I booked an appt with her and it was fun to see her new location!

The highlights of Suite Retreat:

1)  The girls having the entire room all set up so when I arrived after my massage, all I had to do was to unload and unpack my things!

2)  Jessi and I running out to get a GOOD cup of coffee and after consulting her IPhone for the place, discovering it wasn't there any more!! (so we settled for Starbucks - as you know, not my favorite!)

3)  Drinking Woo Woo's at Happy Hour with guacamole and chips and the next night laughing our heads off as the girls tried Dirty Shirley's and poor substitutes for Sex on the Beach - I had wine!

4)  Eating catered Texas Roadhouse (with LOTS of yummy rolls) and Q'doba!!

5)  Texting and phoning the guys - and in between playing scrabble on our IPhones.

6)  Jill getting super excited about switching to "digital" scrapbooking and me using up ALL the pictures I had brought to scrapbook 4 vacations!

7)  Coordinating:  Gary working, Glenn and Brad going to a meeting in Denver, getting Rayna to a basketball game as she was filling in, a sitter for Kylan, sitters for Evan and Kenzie and Gary's folks coming in unexpectedly!!!

8)  Heating up food in a microwave that smelled like burnt popcorn!!!

All in all, one great weekend and lots of pages scrapped!!!

Glenn spent Saturday night in Denver and then headed to Co. Springs early Sunday to watch Rayna play in her tournament - I headed over as soon as I checked out of Embassy Suites and got to see her play 4 games!!!  She's one awesome player!!!
