Symphony Above The Clouds

The guys decided they were going to go rock hounding - after sausage and eggs for breakfast, they started getting their gear ready while Jessi and I made them lunch.  Jaime was kind enough to bring over Evan and Kylan so they could go too and she stayed for coffee (or should I say tea) on the front porch!!

We had a nice relaxing morning and afternoon - the girls played outside some and had fun with chalk!

Jill's family arrived over at Jaime's in the afternoon and we all went over when the guys got back home!  Rayna offered to watch all of the kids at their house (not that they need much watching anymore except for Gwyn) while the 8 adults went into the symphony!  Jaime made chicken wraps for all of us and the rest of us brought sausage, cheese and crackers, fruit and brownies!!

We were lucky to get a great parking spot so we didn't have to walk TOO far to the middle school field where the symphony would play!  It still always seems like a LOT to carry when you bring chairs and blankets and bags!

We found a great spot to set up and the pre-entertainment music was great!!  Picnic food always tastes wonderful and we talked to people we knew and just enjoyed being there!  As you can see in the picture below, there was lots of blue sky in that direction!

But the clouds and sky kept getting blacker and darker on the other side and soon the raindrops started falling!

Between a couple of blankets and one umbrella, we tried to keep the rain out but it just kept raining - soon the announcer said that lightning was within 2 miles and we all needed to seek shelter.  So that was it - time to head to the cars!!  And yes, we all were darn wet by the time we reached them!

By the time we got back to Jaime's house, we heard that the symphony had been cancelled - this was the second year in a row where rain has cancelled it which is so sad!!

It made for an early evening for us since we were all so wet we had to get on home to get into dry clothes!!  Oh well, at least everyone could get to bed on time so they would be bright eyed and happy for family pictures the next day!!

Sounds like our picnic pops - we have had only one heavy rain date and they still played - guess there was no lightning. We skipped last year but are going to one this year when Amanda's are here. So sad you didn't get to hear them.

It was a bummer it got cancelled, but fun to hang with everyone for a bit!
