Wuanita Pass Camping

3rd week of September has ALWAYS been designated as fall trip week!  But the past couple of years, it seems the leaves are changing later!  So when I booked for our regular fall trip, I decided to do the 4th week (and that was a great idea!) and just go locally for the 3rd week!

You never know if you're going to have good color in the fall and as we drove over to the area where we would stay, the leaves had barely turned.

Our camping spot was NOT great but it was where Glenn wanted to be so he could scout for elk season - and I didn't complain as we're not there a lot anyway!  But after we took off to ride that afternoon, we found lots of trees that HAD already turned!

Glenn found  the perfect spot to put his huge tent when he camps the end of October and close by is this single aspen tree - what makes it unique is that you rarely see a single tree by itself!  The aspens' roots connect all together underground !  And I see there are lots of small aspens at the base of the tree so someday all those roots will be connected!

It got pretty darn cold the first night!  The furnace sure felt good in the morning!

We rode around the next day and saw lots of country (along with checking the ground for signs of elk).  I took the picture below to show how many trees have died due to the pine beetle!  Kind of sad in a way but I know that someday they will all fall down and new growth will start!

Glenn did some scouting by himself that afternoon while I sat and read in the camper!  A nice steak dinner that night and a little more riding the next morning!

All in all a successful camping trip with next week's fall trip sure to be a colorful one!
