Labor Day Weekend

Too short- Too cold -Too relaxing!
I DO love 3 day weekends! Especially when the office closes early on the Friday of that weekend! Glenn and I were all packed and headed west!

We had decided to go over Weston Pass first and hopefully camp there the first night! And that's just what we did! Weston Pass is gorgeous and I couldn't believe all the gold aspens we saw along the way! Slow down autumn - we want to enjoy those aspens all month long!

Finding a place to camp wasn't too easy as there weren't a lot of pull-off places along the road - there was a campground close by but we don't do campgrounds unless we absolutely have to! Too many BAD experiences at them - but we finally found a spot that was just perfect and set up camp - I had brought 3 frozen peach fizzies along so brought out that first one and it tasted just perfect!! We roasted hot dogs on the campfire for dinner and ate outside - it got mighty chilly but we had no idea JUST how chilly it was going to get!!

Neither one of us slept great (which is unusual) and I was cold most of the night, even though we were covered with 2 heavy sleeping bags and had flannel sheets on the mattress - when morning came and we could see our breath in the camper, we figured it must have gotten pretty cold out - try 20 degrees!!! And that was after the sun came out and we were up!! BRRRRRRRRR!!!

Glenn did some fishing in the stream and I walked on over to the campground to check it out - it was a nice one and there were quite a few people there too - but we never heard them during the evening as the creek was between us and them!
Late morning we packed up and headed over to another spot which was about an hour away - there were lots of ATV's and motorcycles around so we took one of the side roads and found a nice place at the edge of the forest which opened up to this beautiful valley!
And the next 2 days were spent reading, riding the motorcycle, swedish weaving, playing scrabble, eating, roasting marshmellows, hiking, playing upwords (and yes, I won both games this time!!) and just generally relaxing - my favorite thing to do!!

We ate all kinds of great food and even though the peach fizzies weren't frozen the next day, they still tasted great!! All in all it was a wonderful time - even with the cold nights!!
